Passport scanning technologies are adaptable for inspection of the millions of tons of air, land and sea cargo shipped around the world every year. They are especially well suited for high-throughput inspection in minimum time, they do not require human interpretation of images, and they automatically provide alarms. They also provide the fingerprint of each cargo item, its mass and location to distinguish between benign and threat materials even if shielded or concealed. Any check point in a supply chain can benefit from this high detection efficiency and low-false-positives capability.

The operation is fully automatic so there is no human intervention in the detection and identification process. Alarms are immediate during the scanning and are not dependent on imaging analysis. Because of the high detection probability and low false positives, there is little or no need for rescanning and it minimizes the need for secondary inspection.
