Nuclear Forensics:
Tracing Materials to the Source
When an item in a cargo shipment triggers an alarm, forensic investigation can often identify its unique fingerprint and point directly to its source. Passport technologies can be configured to perform a forensic scan of any item to identify its composition and match the signature to items flagged on lists of source materials. Forensic applications will prove useful for homeland security to identify nuclear materials smuggled by terrorists as well as selected commercial and custom-inspection applications. Passport technologies may also be useful for government or commercial forensic investigations beyond cargo and supply chain applications.
