Management Team

Dr. Robert Ledoux
President, CEO and Director

Dr. Ledoux was Associate Professor of Physics at MIT until 1990. He subsequently founded RSA (medical instruments), where he managed the company from start-up to profitability developing and bringing to market high technology products, including the XKnife therapeutic radiation therapy system. Most recently, as Vice President of Pyramid Technical Consultants, he developed control algorithms and hardware used in semiconductor manufacturing equipment. He holds B.S. and PhD (Physics) degrees from MIT.

Mr. Gustavo Bottan
Vice President, Business Development

Mr. Bottan has nearly 30 years of international sales experience and a proven track record of increasing revenue and developing new business opportunities. His responsibilities include expanding the company’s patented nuclear resonance fluorescence imaging (NRFI) technology to ports of transit throughout the world. He holds B.S. (Industrial Engineering) from the University of Buenos Aires, in Argentina; Chemical Process Certifications from the Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden; and a Master in Science in Management from MIT Sloan School of Business.

Dr. James Costales
Vice President, Engineering

Dr. Costales has over 15 years of experience of leading the full life-cycle development of complex medical device and bioinformatics systems, including system engineering and integration of software, hardware and mechanical components. Before joining Passport Systems, he held senior management positions at startups as well as large companies. Most recently, he led the software development, system engineering and integration for a new product platform at Philips Healthcare. He holds an A.B. (Physics) degree from UC Berkeley and a PhD (Physics) degree from MIT.

Mr. Bruce Garcia
Chief Financial Officer

Mr. Garcia joined Passport Systems in March of 2007 as its Chief Financial Officer. From 1997 to 2006, Mr. Garcia was the CFO of Epion Corporation, a developer and manufacturer of atomic-scale processing equipment for semiconductor and other microelectronic applications. Mr. Garcia was part of the senior management team that negotiated a sale of the company to JDS Uniphase (Nasdaq: JDSU) in 2000, reacquired the company in 2003 and subsequently sold it to Tokyo Electron, the second largest semiconductor equipment manufacturer in the world, in December of 2006. The team also raised $40 million in equity financing during that time. Prior to Epion, Mr. Garcia spent nine years at Summit Technology, a provider of laser vision correction equipment and services, most recently as Vice President of Operations for the company’s vision centers. Before joining Summit as its Controller, he worked in the high technology practice at KPMG Peat Marwick. Mr. Garcia holds an MBA from the Wharton School at The University of Pennsylvania and a BS in Accounting from Fairfield University. He is also a certified public accountant and a certified valuation analyst.

Mr. William McLendon
Chief Operating Officer

From 1999 through 2006 Mr. McLendon was the President of Epion Corporation, a developer and manufacturer of atomic scale processing equipment for semiconductor and other microelectronic applications.  From 1993 until 1998, he was President and Chief Executive Officer of Sight Resource Corporation, a provider of comprehensive eye care services including corrective eye surgery. From 1991 through 1993, he was Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Ibis Technology Corporation, a developer and manufacturer of SIMOX silicon-on-insulator material for semiconductor devices.  From 1986 through 1990, he was Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Summit Technology, Inc., a provider of laser vision correction equipment and services.  From 1983 through 1985, he was Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Zymet Corporation, a developer of industrial ion beam processing equipment.  Mr. McLendon has a BS in Accounting from Bentley College.

Mr. Paul H. Johnson
Vice President of Contracts and Administration

Mr. Johnson brings 25 years of proposal development, negotiations and contract administration experience with both the U.S. Government and Commercial organizations.  Before joining Passport Systems, he held the position of Senior Contracts Manager at Raytheon Company’s Integrated Defense Systems’ Missile Defense Center.  Prior to Raytheon, he served as Director, Contract Administration for The Charles Stark Draper Laboratory.  He holds a B.S. (Business Administration) from Norwich University.

Professor William Bertozzi
Director and Scientific Advisor

Professor Bertozzi is the inventor of the NRFI technology. He is a Professor of Physics at MIT and founder and developer of the Bates Linear Accelerator Center, where he served as Head of Research Operations. He now heads the Nuclear Interactions Group of LNS at MIT and is a Fellow of the American Physical Society and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He holds B.S. and PhD (Physics) from MIT.

Mr. Stewart K. Hall
General Counsel and Secretary

Mr. Hall is one of Passport’s founders, having joined the company at its inception, and serves as its chief legal officer. From 1985 to 1994 he served as Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of Howtek, Inc., a pioneer in desktop color printers and scanners. Previously he held legal positions in the defense electronics industry for ten years and worked in Paris for Price Waterhouse & Co. in its French Tax Department. From 1994 to the present Mr. Hall has been in private practice, serving as a general counsel to emerging high-technology companies. He holds a BA from the University of North Carolina and a JD from Cornell Law School.
