Billerica, Mass.—April 06, 2009—Passport Systems, Inc., a developer of next generation, automated, non-intrusive cargo screening technologies that identify the composition and location of materials enclosed in cargo containers announced today that Massachusetts State Senators Steven C. Panagiotakos (D-Lowell), Chairman of the Senate Ways and Means Committee representing the First Middlesex District, and Senator Kenneth J. Donnelly (D-Arlington), representing the Fourth Middlesex District, had recently toured its office and manufacturing facilities in Billerica, MA. The visit provided the Senators the opportunity to see the progress made by the company in developing advanced systems to detect nuclear weapons, explosives, and other threats to the Nation’s security as well as controlled substances and other forms of illegal contraband.
“There is a critical need to install new inspection systems at airports, seaports, transportation centers and national borders to meet the growing threat of terrorist attacks,” Senator Panagiotakos, noted, and “Passport Systems’ work in providing cutting edge detection and scanning technologies allows for the capability of detecting these threats with the speed and accuracy required.”
Senator Donnelly added, “The ability to identify the lethality of materials that appear harmless is an important new development in the evolution of scanning detection systems," and the deployment of this technology at seaports, borders and airports would have a major impact for the detection and interdiction of terrorist threats.”
“We are honored to have Senators Panagiotakos and Donnelly visit our facility,” said Dr. Robert J. Ledoux, Ph.D., President and CEO of Passport Systems. “Passport Systems continues on its road to generate quality jobs in development and manufacturing of scanning products and we are pleased to see the interest demonstrated by the Senators in our work.”
