Passport Systems Signs $2.6 Million Contract with Department of Homeland Security to Build a Proof of Concept Scanner to Detect Shielded Nuclear Materials in Cargo ContainersActon, Massachusetts – September 28, 2007 - Passport Systems, Inc. today announced that it had signed a $2.68 million contract with the Domestic Nuclear Detection Office of the Department of Homeland Security to build and test a proof of concept scanner to detect shielded nuclear materials and shielding material in cargo containers. A follow on to two earlier contracts managed by DHS, the contract is an eight month program designed to demonstrate the full functionality of Passport’s nuclear resonance fluorescence (NRF) technology in combination with its effective Z (EZ-3D™) technology in an integrated system. Passport Systems’ NRF and EZ-3D™ technologies are designed to automatically detect the constituent elements and atomic number of concealed threats in cargo.
