High Interest in Passport Systems’ Cargo Scanning Technologies during US Department of Commerce Trade Mission to EuropeBillerica, Mass.—May 14, 2009—Passport Systems, Inc., announced today its successful participation in the US Department of Commerce International Trade Administration European Port Infrastructure and Security Trade Mission. The Company had the opportunity to present its advanced technology solutions for cargo screening to customers in Germany, Belgium and Italy. The meetings were organized by the Department of Commerce to provide a forum to reach port authorities, terminal operators, police and shipping and logistics companies. These entities are faced with a US mandate to inspect 100% of sea cargo by 2012 and they are seeking inspection systems that can effectively accomplish this goal without slowing the flow of goods. Several parties, which currently use conventional X-ray detection systems, expressed a high degree of interest in Passport’s next generation cargo inspection technologies that can automatically and rapidly detect and identify shielded nuclear materials, explosives and contraband in containers without having to open them. These technologies provide a unique means of thwarting terrorist threats while enhancing the ability of customs authorities throughout the world to verify shipping manifests and detect illegal contraband. Gustavo Bottan, Passport’s Vice President of Business Development, stated “the Trade Mission was focused, well organized, and provided American manufacturers, including Passport, with an excellent opportunity to demonstrate the capabilities of their technologies for these critical applications.” About Passport Systems For further information contact: |
